Terms of use
Last updated: 10 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Mohamed Aslam (“we”, “us”), who run Majlis. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Majlis.
What Majlis is
Majlis helps people find Islamic lectures, classes and gatherings, follow scholars, book a spot at events, and ask scholars questions. Scholars and organisers, once approved, can publish events and answer questions.
Your account
- You must give accurate details when you sign up and apply for a role.
- Keep your password safe. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- You must be 18 or older.
- One person, one account. Don’t use someone else’s account or pretend to be someone else.
Content you post
“Content” means anything you add to Majlis: questions, answers, events (titles, descriptions, images), profiles and photos.
- You are responsible for your content. Only post what you have the right to share.
- You keep ownership of your content. You give us permission to store it, show it in the app to other users, and resize or format it, only for running Majlis.
- Public content can be seen by other signed-in users. Questions are shown without the asker’s name.
What is not allowed
Do not post content, or behave in a way, that:
- is hateful, or attacks people for their religion, sect, school of thought, caste, ethnicity, nationality, gender or disability;
- harasses, threatens, bullies or intimidates anyone;
- promotes violence, terrorism or extremism, or praises those who commit it;
- is sexually explicit or sexualises anyone, and in particular anything involving minors;
- is false or misleading, such as fake events, fake scholar profiles, or pretending to be a scholar, organisation or person you are not;
- is spam, advertising, or unrelated to Majlis’s purpose;
- shares someone else’s private information, such as their phone number or address, without permission;
- breaks the law or someone else’s rights, including copyright;
- tries to break, overload or misuse the app, or get at data you shouldn’t.
Respectful disagreement on matters of knowledge is welcome. Insults are not.
Reporting and blocking
- You can report an event, a question or answer, or a profile from inside the app. Our moderators review every report.
- You can block a scholar or organiser so their events, profile and answers no longer appear for you. Scholars can block someone who sent them a question, without seeing who it was.
- You can manage the people you’ve blocked under Account.
What we do about it
Moderators review scholar and organiser applications before they go live, and review questions before scholars see them. When content or behaviour breaks these terms, we may, without notice:
- hold or remove the content;
- suspend a scholar or organiser role;
- suspend or close the account.
We may also report illegal content to the authorities. If you think we got it wrong, write to support@majlis.community.
Events
Events are run by their hosts, not by Majlis. The host is responsible for the event, its venue and its details. Booking a spot in the app does not create a contract between you and us. Hosts can change or cancel events, and we can’t guarantee that any event goes ahead.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time, in the app or as described on our account deletion page. We may close accounts that break these terms.
No guarantees
We provide Majlis “as is”. We work to keep it running and accurate, but we can’t promise it will always be available or error-free. Content is the responsibility of whoever posted it, and answers from scholars are their own views. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from using Majlis, from events, or from content posted by others.
Changes
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. If you keep using Majlis after a change, you accept the new terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of India.
